Special Areas of Interest for the DAC

The Disability Action Council's work encompasses a wide range of activities in the disability and rehabilitation sector in Cambodia. In the past, work in this sector was heavily focussed on physical rehabilitation of landmine victims. Now, organisations working in the sector have diversified their activities to include the wider needs of Cambodia's disabled people. The DAC Secretariat coordinates and facilitates this work through the DAC's committees and working groups (see organisational chart for more information)

The DAC considers all activities in the disability and rehabilitation sector important. At the same time, we recognise that some areas of work which formerly received little or no attention require nurturing to ensure their development into fully-fledged programmes and projects which can contribute to the wider needs of people with disabilities.

In recognition of these needs, special committees were set up to support activities in these areas. These deal with issues concerning:

As an extension of the DAC Secretariat's traditional role of coordination and facilitation of other organisations' work, it has undertaken a more hands-on project coordination role to deal with the educational needs of children with disabilities.
