Children with Disabilities Committee (Inclusive Education Program)

The Inclusive Education Program was established in 1999 to provide technical advice and support to the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport (MoEYS) through the Special Education Office (SEO) [which was established on 31 January 2000] of the Primary Education Department, and this is also considered to be a helping mechanism for the MoEYS in achieving the EFA goals in 2015.

MoEYS has implemented the inclusive education pilot project in 2000 under collaboration with DAC and funding support from UNICEF. This Program has played a crucial role in the promotion of inclusive education for children with disabilities through the Children with Disability Committee, which has 37 members so far including, NGOs, INGOs, and key relevant ministries such as Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport (MoEYS), Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSVY) and Ministry of Health (MoH). The purpose of the committee is to collect good practices, inputs, and expertise for the effective implementation of inclusive education for children with disability.

So far, some positive steps have been taken by MoEYS to promote inclusive education such as: the Policy on Education for Children with Disability, the development of the Teacher Training Manual on Inclusive Education for Children with Disability, and the finalization of the Master Plan on Inclusive Education for Children with Disability, which are great achievements for Cambodia.
