Collaborating/partner agencies

The disability sector in Cambodia who is the main organization: Disability Action Council (DAC), National Centre of Disabled Persons (NCDP), Cambodian Disabled People's Organisation (CDPO), Krousar Thmey, Cambodia Trust, Caritas CBR Program; Ministry of Social Affairs, Labour, Vocational Training and Youth Rehabilitation (MOSALVY) and its target Provincial Department.

Mission/Vision

Vision: A Cambodia where every blind and visually impaired person has access to and increased awareness of social, economic, and political practices; memberships; and national and international human rights.

Mission: To work in partnership with MOSALVY and other NGOs to develop an association that empowers blind and visually impaired people through increased capacity of skills, training, socialisation, ability, and knowledge.

I-Provincial Development Projects

  • Kampong Thom village, Kampong Rotess commune, Steung Sen district, Kampong Thom province.
  • Phum 4, Veal Vong commune, Kampong Cham district, Kampong Cham province.
  • Beng village, Anlong Vill commune, Sangker district, Battambang province.
  • Kruos village, Svay Dangkum commune, Siem Reap district, Siem Reap province.

II-ABC Project

  • Phnom Penh: Seeing Hands I, Seeing Hands II-A, and Seeing Hands II-B, Braille Literacy Class (Khmer and English), Women Committee (Women Friendship Group, Hair and beauty spot training and Indonesian Massage training).
  • Sihanouk-Ville: Seeing Hands III, Khmer and English Braille Literacy Class, Daily living Skill, General Knowledge, Orientation Mobility, Anatomy Symptom, Pathology, and Physiology Training.
  • Kampot: Seeing Hands V, Khmer and English Braille Literacy Class, General Knowledge, Orientation Mobility, Daily Living Skill, Anatomy Symptom, Pathology, and Physiology Training.
  • Siem Reap: Seeing Hands IV, English Braille Literacy Class

Main Activities/ Descriptions of the project

I-ABC Provincial Development Project
  • Identifying and conducting assessment of the situation and need of families with blind and visual impaired member
  • Networking with Government departments, other NGO/INGOs and participating in sectoral meetings at provincial meeting level where these forums can influence services for blind and blind and visually impaired people
  • To develop and expand ABC membership
  • Liaising with ABC members and ABC Provincial Representatives
  • Raising local awareness of the situation and needs of blind and visually impaired people

II-ABC Project

  • Massage
  • Braille Literacy
  • English Teaching
  • Orientation Training
  • Women's Committee and their activities

Beneficiaries

Over the 3 years period of the Provincial Development Project, the ABC initiative is reach out to all blind and visually impaired people living in each of the 5 target provinces (Kampong Cham, Kampot, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap and Battambang) identified above, irrespective of age, gender, religious beliefs and ethnicity.
