Areas of Focus (projects)

Main Activities/ Description of the project

  1. Community Based Rehabilitation Program: The fieldworkers deliver rehab activities in the villages where blind people are, that includes income-generating activities with loan assistance, orientation and mobility training and skills for daily living. Assists the different provincial eye unit during their outreach activity in following up poor patients who need eye operations. In collaboration with other NGOs and visiting medical experts, organize the harelip/cleft palate operations as well as plastic surgery operations. Support poor blind children from the provinces to study at Khrousar Thmey School for the Blind.
  2. Training and service delivery at Takeo Eye Hospital: the hospital receives the mandate from the Ministry of Health to train eye care personnel. Diploma Opthalmology for doctors and Ophthalmic Nurse Course are being conducted at the hospital with curriculum approved by the Ministry of Health. Takeo Eye Hospital continues to treat patients from different provinces that provide good clinical resources for the training needs of the doctors and nurses.
  3. Development of provincial eye units: Eye unit of Municipal Hospital-Phnom Penh, Kampong Spue, Kampot, Pursat and Preah Norodom Sihanouk Hospital are being assisted to ensure that proper eye care is available at the hospital and within the reach of the poor. An ophthalmologist and nurse trainer in order to maintain the quality service and develop a system in the unit that is acceptable in the hospital set up are visiting the eye unit regularly.
