Main Activities
The Cambodia Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, formerly known
as the United Nations Center for Human Rights, was established in Phnom Penh in
October 1993. Its mandate is to carry out the following activities:
- Manage the implementation of educational and technical assistance and advisory
services programs.
- Assist the Government of Cambodia, at its request, in meeting its obligations
under the human rights instruments.
- Provide support to bona fide human rights groups in Cambodia.
- Contribute to creation and / or strengthening of national institutions for
the promotion and protection of human rights.
- Continue to assist with the drafting and implementation of legislation to
promote and protect human rights.
- Continue to assist with the training of persons responsible for the administration
of justice.
