August 13-14, 2009 Training on Basic CBR in Kompong Cham Province, Cambodia

The Training on Basic CBR was presided over by H.E Sem Sokha, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veteran and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSVY) on August 13-14, 2009 at Kompong Cham province. The trainers of trainees were invited from the Ministry of Health (MoH), CDMD, DAC and the team of national coordination on CBR.

Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veteran and Youth Rehabilitationthe team of national coordination on CBRThe aims of the trainings are (1) to integrate knowledge on disabilities through government officers at community level, (2) to understand the concept of community based rehabilitation for all relevant stakeholders, (3) to make aware of MoSVY action plan regarding to disabilities development, (4) to give understanding on involvement of relevant people in community based rehabilitation activities, (5) to build capacity to district and provincial staffs of MoSVY and (6) to strengthen collaboration within MoSVY and MoH and other stakeholders on staff capacity building, particularly on community based rehabilitation.

After the session, the trainees were divided into two groups for field visits to different areas: to Krousa Thmey, on education activities, at a special school with 163 blind and deaf students; to Tbong Khmum district, on Self-Help Groups, financially supported by Handicap International France; to Sourng city, on income generation activities of blind people under financial support from ABC, and a visit to an 18 year old blind girl that ABC has supported for education.

August 26, 2009 Training on "Monitoring and Evaluation"

Monitoring and Evaluation training sessionTraining on "Monitoring and Evaluation" was organized by Disability Action Council (DAC) on August 26, 2009. There were a total of 13 participants. The training session was facilitated by Sarah Jago (DAC/VSO) and Erika Bhura (NEP/VSO). DAC has a statutory obligation in the newly adopted legislation to monitor policy implementation, it is necessary for DAC Staff to gain an understanding of terms used in Monitoring and Evaluation processes.

DAC plan to set up an M and E program which will develop a monitoring tool and set up a monitoring system within the DAC network. This session was intended as an introduction to the purposes of both monitoring and evaluation and an explanation of the terms used.
