July 8, 2009 National Consultative Meeting "Inclusion of Disabilities into the NSDP Update 2009-2013"

National Consultative Meetingparticipants at national consultative meetingThe National Consultative Meeting "Inclusion of Disabilities into the NSDP Update 2009-2013" was co-organized by the Disability Action Council (DAC), under technical support from Cambodian Disabled People's Organization (CDPO) and Handicap International French (HIF), presided over by H.E. Sem Sokha, Secretary of State, Ministry of Social Affairs, Veteran and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSVY) at the Sunway Hotel on July 8, 2009.

The event brought together key stakeholders in the field of disability in Cambodia including representatives of Disabled People's Organizations (DPO), local organizations and international organizations, development partners and governmental ministries.

The goal of the National Consultative Meeting was to develop collective views on the mainstreaming of disabilities to be used in the National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP). Furthermore, it aimed to acquire extensive support among the key policy makers, technical working groups and donors for the final statement and the recommendations on inclusion of disabilities issues into the NSDP update 2009-2013.

The Meeting was fully attended by more than 45 enthusiastic participants to review the recommended inputs into the NSDP extension and to agree on the final recommendations to ensure the inclusion of disabilities into poverty reduction plans through the following sectors; health, education, landmine action, employment, gender equity and governance. As a result, participants understood about the disability sector and came up with new inputs and recommendations to be put into the NSDP fro 2009-2013. In addition, each group representative presented its own works through discussion to entire group.
